The guided Fourni circular walk takes you through the fragrant pine forest at the foot of the mystical Mount Juchtas, not far from Heraklion. In peaceful surroundings, nature, history and sweeping views combine to create a varied walk off the beaten track.

Tour itinerary

Our hike begins in the Fourni area and initially leads along easily accessible gravel paths into the shady pine forest. After a short time, we are immersed in a quiet, green landscape, far away from the hustle and bustle of the coast.

The trail alternates between wider paths and narrow trails, offering beautiful views of the traditional village of Archanes and the wide surroundings around Heraklion.

History & special places

A highlight of the hike is the path along one of the largest Minoan necropolises of the Bronze Age. This historic site remains a mystery to this day and provides a fascinating insight into the early history of Crete.

Not far from there, we discover a small stone theatre, almost hidden in the forest, which is ideal for a short break.

Nature & views

Parts of the route run above a small gorge and offer impressive views down into the depths. These sections make the hike particularly appealing for nature lovers who want to experience the quiet, unspoilt side of Crete.

Note on the route:
Some short sections of the hike require sure-footedness. These passages are easily manageable and are part of the natural character of the route.

This hike is usually possible all year round, but adjustments may be necessary in case of heavy rain or extreme weather conditions.
